Jose Mourinho is expected to enact a total transformation of the Roma midfield next season, with Lorenzo Pellegrini the only player guaranteed to remain.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Giallorossi will totally gut the middle of the park for next term, the area of the team that Mourinho is most unhappy with.

Pellegrini is the captain and only recently signed a contract extension, so his position is safe.

Sergio Oliveira is on loan with option to buy from FC Porto, but it is by no means guaranteed he will be purchased outright for €13.5m.

It’s reported Jordan Veretout is certainly on the exit list, having lost his place in the side recently, while Bryan Cristante could also be released for circa €20m.

Amadou Diawara and Gonzalo Villar were never part of Mourinho’s plans, the Guinea international stuck on the bench, while the Spaniard is on loan at Getafe.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is out of contract in June and he could also be allowed to leave, although he is discussing the possibility of an extension.

4 thought on “Roma plan total midfield revolution”
  1. Roma is a selling team. That the reason why they constantly missing for the top 4 spot in italy.
Mou should built on with this team and improve players. Just like players needs to improve so should coaches also improves their tactics or style of play.
Alex ferguson uses a lot of man united academic players and improve them. sopme coaches also looking at the market to buy players

  2. At the end of the day, the manager simply utilise the abilities of each of his players to fit into what he thinks would be the best to drive the team forward. If the players don’t agree, they are left out and later leave. Or the entire team could gang up and revolt against the manager. These days, the term successful manager is very subjective – Alex Ferguson went for years without a trophy when he took over the devils in 1986. Go check out what year he won his first silverware at old trafford. In this era, there’s no such tolerance nor is there a term ‘went for years without a trophy’

  3. Roma hasn’t really sold any of their best players since Alisson, and that was 2018. The characteristics of the current midfields doesn’t suit Mourinho, so it’s reasonable to try to replace them.
