Roma plan appeal for Zaniolo three-match Europa League ban

Roma star Nicolò Zaniolo has been given a three-match ban in the Europa League after his red card against Real Betis, so will miss all the remaining group stage games, but the club is planning an appeal.

The Italy international was sent off for a completely futile kick out at an opponent in an off the ball situation during the final minutes of the 2-1 home defeat to Real Betis.

He has already missed one game, but UEFA have informed Roma that Zaniolo has been given a further two-match ban for that incident.

That means Zaniolo will not be able to play the final two group games against HJK Helsinki and Ludogorets.

Roma are currently third in Europa League Group C, as Real Betis are on 10 points, Ludogorets seven, Roma four and HJK only one.

The Giallorossi are expected to appeal against the ruling and hope to have the ban at least reduced to a total two matches rather than three.
