Roma news: Pellegrini and Smalling out against FC Sheriff, Svilar to start

Chris Smalling

Lorenzo Pellegrini and Chris Smalling have not recovered from their injuries, so they’ll miss Roma‘s Europa League opener against FC Sheriff on Thursday, while Mile Svilar is expected to start.

Pellegrini and Smalling didn’t train with the rest of the team at Trigoria Wednesday morning, so they won’t travel with José Mourinho’s side to Moldova later today. They are both dealing with muscle injuries.

According to Sky Sport Italia Pellegrini could partially recover and go on the bench against Torino in the next Serie A game on Sunday.

There’s more news coming from Trigoria as Angelo Mangiante claims Mourinho will pick Svilar between the sticks tomorrow, leaving Rui Patricio on the bench.

The Sky Sport correspondent said Mourinho spoke to his goalkeepers before this morning’s training session which was open to the media for the first 15 minutes.

The Special One won’t be on the bench as he will be serving the first of a four-match ban against FC Sheriff tomorrow.
