Roma newcomer Saelemaekers needs ankle surgery

Several reports claim Roma newcomer Alexis Saelemaekers must undergo ankle surgery after an injury sustained against Genoa and is expected to remain out of action for two months.

Belgian winger Saelemaekers, who joined Roma on loan from Milan during the 2024 summer transfer window, must undergo ankle surgery after sustaining an injury in a Serie A game against Genoa on Sunday.

Several sources, including La Gazzetta dello Sport, report that the Belgian winger underwent medical checks in the capital this morning, and the result was that the Milan loanee needed to undergo ankle surgery.

It will likely be performed in Belgium and force the 25-year-old to the sidelines for at least two months.

Saelemaekers started against Genoa at Marassi on Sunday but was forced off the pitch at minute 50.

It remains to be seen how Roma will replace the Belgian winger, but according to Gazzetta, the Giallorossi may reintroduce Nicola Zalewski to the first team.

The Poland international has been frozen out after rejecting an offer from Galatasaray last week.
