Roma never stopped reaching out to Federico Chiesa and are still reportedly the favourites to sign the Juventus outcast, ahead of Napoli, Inter, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
The Bianconeri made absolutely clear over the weekend that “the decision has been made” to cut Chiesa out of their squad, as his contract expires at the end of the season and there will be no attempt to extend.
His agent Fali Ramadani was in London over the last few days for talks with Chelsea and Tottenham, which reportedly did not get very far, while Napoli and Inter are also keeping an eye on the situation.
Roma still chasing Chiesa
Now Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio warns that Roma never stopped the negotiations and are still in pole position.
They had seemed to step back when instead investing in his Juventus teammate Matias Soulé for €25.6m plus up to €4m in add-ons.
However, Chiesa’s asking price could drop down to €15m, the absolute minimum required for Juve not to make a net loss on the €60m purchase.
Coach Daniele De Rossi dropped a hint too, as he ‘liked’ Chiesa’s Instagram post showing him training in Turin.
Of all the clubs linked with the Italy international, only the Giallorossi have been consistently enthusiastic about the idea of signing him.
