Roma look to Zenit’s Azmoun as Dzeko heir

With Edin Dzeko seemingly heading towards Inter, Roma are looking at Zenit St Petersburg striker Sardar Azmoun as their first choice.

There are multiple reports that Dzeko is one of two forwards who will replace Chelsea-bound Romelu Lukaku at San Siro this summer.

That means the Giallorossi need someone to work with Borja Mayoral and Eldor Shomurodov upfront at the Stadio Olimpico.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Azmoun is the first name on the list, having already been linked several weeks ago.

He had seemed on the verge of a move to Bayer Leverkusen, but the Germans renewed their contract with Lucas Alario instead.

The price-tag is believed to be circa €25m, although his contract only runs to June 2022.

Azmoun is a 26-year-old Iran international who spent practically his entire career in Russia with Rubin Kazan, Rostov and since February 2019 at Zenit.

He had a spectacular start to the 2021-22 season, scoring five goals in four games.
