Roma are looking to provide Jose Mourinho with a new midfielder and have identified Jerdy Schouten and Davide Frattesi as strong alternatives to PSG’s Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Giallorossi have been very active in the transfer window this summer, picking up Zeki Celik, Paulo Dybala, Nemanja Matic and Mile Svilar. The Friedkins are keen to continue backing Mourinho’s project in the Italian capital following last season’s Europa Conference League victory, and the team will be hoping for a top four finish in the upcoming campaign.

As reported by Il Messaggero, Roma have identified Bologna’s Schouten and Sassuolo’s Davide Frattesi as strong alternatives to Wijnaldum, whose incredibly high salary is proving problematic, despite PSG’s willingness to pay half.

With a market value of around €10m, the 25-year-old Dutchman would be a significantly more accessible option. His contract expires with Bologna in 2024, so a deal shouldn’t be too hard to pull off.

Things may be a little more difficult for Frattesi, who could cost close to €20m, although the Giallorossi are hoping to include Cristian Volpato in a possible deal.
