Roma are reportedly lining up Zenit St. Petersburg forward Sardar Azmoun for next summer, when Borja Mayoral returns to Real Madrid.

The Giallorossi are revamping their attacking options this season with new coach Jose Mourinho, having sold Edin Dzeko to Inter, bringing in Tammy Abraham from Chelsea and Genoa’s Eldor Shomurodov.

According to the Corriere dello Sport newspaper, director of sport Tiago Pinto has already been working on future signings too.

It’s claimed that they have a deal with Iran international centre-forward Azmoun, whose contract with Zenit is running down.

The 26-year-old has 34 goals in 52 senior caps for Iran, while so far this season he has already found the net six times in seven competitive games.

He had already been on the verge of an exit this summer, although a transfer to Olympique Lyonnais never materialised.

Roma will have a gap in the squad when Mayoral’s two-season loan from Real Madrid comes to an end in June 2022.

They have an option to buy for €20m, but do not seem to have any real intention of using it.
