Roma are said to be keen on Monza coach Raffaele Palladino in the event that current boss Jose Mourinho leaves the club in the coming months.

The Special One is into the final year of his contract with the Giallorossi. His deal ties him to the Stadio Olimpico until June 30 2024.

Mourinho had been subject of interest from Saudi Arabia, where it was reported he would become one of the most highly-paid coaches on the planet, however, he later decided that his immediate future was best spent in Rome.

However, according to reports from Calciomercato.com, the subject of a contract extension has not yet been addressed in conversations between Mourinho’s representatives and the club board.

For Mourinho, it is not a case of money, otherwise he would have accepted the offers from the Middle East in the summer, Calciomercato writes.

There are suggestions, though, that Mourinho has done all that he can with the current restrictions the club have imposed on them.

If Mourinho were to move on at the end of the season, it has been suggested that the current favourite to take over is Palladino, who has impressed since taking over at Monza just ver a year ago.

At 39 years of age, he is currently the youngest coach in Serie A. He had spent a year in charge of Monza’s Primavera side , before being appointed to the first team role last September.

Though the club were bottom of the league at the time of his appointment, Palladino was able to guide Monza to a respectable 11th place finish, achieving safety with six league matches to spare.
