Veteran Germany defender Mats Hummels is expected to arrive in the Italian capital on Monday to sign for Roma, where he will put pen to paper on a one-year contract with an option to extend.

Though the Serie A transfer window closed on Friday night, Roma have dipped into the free agent market and are expected to announce the signing of former Atletico Madrid centre-back Mario Hermoso

The business does not end there, though, as Chris Smalling is expected to sign for Saudi Pro League side Al-Fayha, which has led the Giallorossi to signing Hummels, who is still available as a free agent.

Hummels set for Roma move

The former Dortmund and Bayern Munich centre-back is expected to sign a one-year contract, with an option for an extra year which will be triggered automatically if he makes a certain number of appearances this season.

The 35-year-old is set to put pen to paper on a deal that will earn him €2.5m in wages for the year.

Both Hummels and Hermoso are expected to need some time to get up to speed and return to match fitness before making their Giallorossi bows.
