Roma hope for Napoli peace

Roma director general Mauro Baldissoni has invited Napoli fans to enjoy the show when the two teams clash next Saturday.

The Giallorossi will travel to Naples on Saturday to face the Azzurri in the two teams’ first meeting since Napoli fan Ciro Esposito was fatally shot ahead of the Coppa Italia Final in Rome last May.

Roma ultra Daniele De Santis stands accused of the crime and police are growing increasingly concerned about the potential for repercussions when the capital club face the Vesuviani this weekend.

The Lupi will not have fans at next weekend’s fixture and it is reported that the club has been told to travel to Naples by plane in order to avoid trouble where possible.

“I hope we can enjoy the game against Napoli,” Baldissoni has commented at today’s shareholders’ meeting.

“Football is sport, passion and we are sure that Neapolitan supporters will go the stadium in order to enjoy the show.

“We know that our fans are banned for this fixture, but we are working in order to change things in the future.”

But before the much-anticipated clash with Rafa Benitez’s side, Roma will have to face Cesena at the Olimpico on Wednesday night.

“The new board doesn’t change anything as far as our plans go – Roma wants to win and will play against Cesena to win as always, even if lately we didn’t succeed as often as we should.”

Baldissoni also announced that the Giallorossi will soon be able to display a main sponsor on their shirts.

“At the moment there are on-going talks with a few companies and I think that we’ll have some news very soon about the issue.”
