After their decision not to sign Leonardo Bonucci, Roma are still looking around for a new defender and have set their sights on Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah.

The Giallorossi have dealt with numerous injuries this campaign, heavily limiting Jose Mourinho’s options across the pitch, and the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations will further impact the club’s squad, with Evan Ndicka ready to jet off.

Roma were heavily linked with a move for Bonucci recently and held negotiations with the Union Berlin defender’s entourage, but fans in the Italian capital made it clear that they didn’t want to see the veteran in yellow and red considering his history with Juventus.

Page nine of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Roma are considering picking up Chalobah from Chelsea on loan, aware that he’ll be a cheaper option compared to their other target Thilo Kehrer.

The English defender earns half as much as his West Ham counterpart, around €1.5m net per season, and could arrive in the Italian capital on a six-month loan deal.
