Roma have already invested more than €100m in new signings since José Mourinho arrived in the capital, but the coach is still not happy with the team and is planning a new revolution over the summer.

The Giallorossi were the biggest spenders in Serie A during the summer transfer window and La Gazzetta dello Sport highlights how the Friedkins have already invested more than €100m in new signings since the Special One moved to the Stadio Olimpico.

The sum includes transfer fees and salaries. During the last two transfer windows, Roma signed Tammy Abraham for €42m, Rui Patricio for €11m, Matias Vina for €13m, Eldor Shomurodov for €20m and Sergio Oliveira on loan with an option to buy for €12m.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles also joined the Giallorossi in January on a free loan move from Arsenal.

According to the report, Roma owners will need to make even more investments to make the team more competitive at the end of the season. José Mourinho is unhappy with the squad’s depth and overall quality and has publicly criticised his players over the last few weeks. The Special One expects to see more new faces join the Stadio Olimpico at the end of the current campaign.

Roma sit seventh in the Serie A table and are six points off a Champions League placement. They have been eliminated from the Coppa Italia and the Conference League seems to be Mourinho’s only opportunity to lift a piece of silverware in his first season in the capital, waiting for another revolution in 2022-23.

7 thought on “Roma have invested more than €100m in new signings, but Mourinho wants more”
  1. You do know that the money spent was literally for emergency use. They diss not want to spend big money on a striker but with Deko leaving they had to, same with left back because of Spina Getting hurt in the Euros!! Mourinho has stated many times that this money was not used in the way he would have liked!! Heaven forbid Jose asks for more money to make the team better

  2. Why don’t you speak of Allegri spending 80mil in the January window even though his team was already the most talented in the league! And that they should be fighting for too spot not fighting for top4 but I get it the Mourinho agenda is now alive and well in Italy just like it was in England!

  3. If you put 100m into Atalanta they would win the league and generate 200m profit. I get that the media are a bit obsessed with Jose but at the same time 100m and no results isn’t good and certainly isn’t sustainable.

  4. That 20 mill for Shomorodov is an absolute waste of Money – I mean it’s not as bad as wasting 30 mill on Gabigol because that was horrendous but bad nonetheless. They need to get rid of Smalling – he’s a defender who can’t defend ! and Mou needs to scrap the dilapidated and ancient 3-5-2 and find a way for Mihytarian to play more as a second striker for Abraham. His cycle as a coach is finished but Roma are stuck with him now – good luck Romanisti you will need it !!

  5. Poor Roma. Appointing Mourinho was a huge error. They should have hit the reset button, kept their most promising under 23 players, spent money on a bunch of talented player aged 18-20 and hired a young hungry modern coach, like De Zerbi, and let the squad develop and improve organically. Oh well.

  6. When Mourinho signed for Roma they had Dzeko. When he arrived Dzeko went to Inter. So they had to sign Abraham for 40 million. They could also have signed a striker from a serie C team voor 100.000. when Mourinho arrived they had spinazola but he got injured so they had to spend 20 million for a left back. If the emergencies didn’t happen and would have given Mourinho the 100m then te results would have been better.

  7. That amount is not more than what man City spent on a single player who is still not delivering but you guys will not write about that instead you will be pursuing mourhinho up and down.
Allow him to build a winning side. After all good soup na money make am.
Tell the Italian refs that they are bringing disgrace to the beautiful game of football with their unbalanced decisions against Roma.
The entire football lovers all over the world are watching them .
I hope the league regulators are watching too.
