Just hours after reports Roma had chosen Luis Campos to be their new director of sport, it’s claimed they’ve pulled out in frustration at the lack of clarity.

Gazzetta dello Sport and Sportitalia transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà insisted Lille chief Campos was definitively their first choice for the role.

However, now the Corriere dello Sport online edition and Calciomercato.com both maintain that Roma have suddenly pulled out of negotiations for Campos.

They want someone who can take over immediately and the on-going tension between Campos and his club Lille threatens to drag on for some time.

It is also reported that Campos wants to continue living in France rather than make the move to Rome.

Other candidates include PSV Eindhoven director John de Jong and Atletico Madrid chief Andrea Berta.
