Roma have reportedly been given the all-clear by Stade Rennes for Lorenz Assignon, who will arrive on loan with a curious option to buy clause for €10m.

According to multiple sources including Sky Sport Italia and La Gazzetta dello Sport, the proposal was accepted by the Ligue 1 side.

It is going to be circa €1.5m for the one-season loan and an option to buy for a further €8.5m that becomes an obligation under certain conditions.

The rumour is that the ‘conditions’ are quite simply needing Assignon to make his first competitive appearance in the Giallorossi jersey, so that would be enough to activate the obligation to make the move permanent.

It is to all intents and purposes an obligation to buy in disguise.

Assignon is also set to double his current salary of €0.75m per season with the new contract at the Stadio Olimpico.

He was eager to make the move to Roma, also because it means a reunion with his former Rennes teammate Enzo Le Fée.

The 24-year-old right-back spent last season on loan at Burnley.
