Roma are set to pocket €1.3m thanks to their former midfielder Gerson moving from Flamengo to Olympique Marseille for €25m.

The transfer is reportedly complete at a cost of €25m plus performance-related bonuses, including 20-25 per cent of his future sale.

This particular clause is a recurring theme, because when Roma sold Gerson to Flamengo for €11.8m in 2019, it came with a 10 per cent cut of profits from his next transfer.

That is now proving useful, as Roma will pick up €1.3m from the Marseille move.

It had originally been reported that they would receive €2.5m, but the deal was 10 per cent of the profit from the transfer, so anything above the €11.8m sale fee.

Roma originally purchased Gerson from Fluminense in 2016 for €18.6m, but he made very little impact with the Giallorossi.
