Roma are successfully whittling down their squad of unwanted figures, with Gonzalo Villar close to Sampdoria and Carles Perez heading for Celta Vigo.

These players are not part of Jose Mourinho’s plans for this season and the club needs to get them off the books to make room for new arrivals, including Georginio Wijnaldum from PSG.

According to multiple sources, including TyC Sports, a deal has been done with Sampdoria for Villar.

He will make the move on loan with option to buy for €10m and is expected to have his medical over the weekend.

There had been advanced negotiations with Monza, but those were abandoned.

As for Carles Perez, the Spanish midfielder is heading home towards Celta Vigo.

Marca maintain it will be a loan with option to make the move permanent for a total €6m, with Celta Vigo paying his salary.

That option will become an obligation to buy if certain circumstances are met.

The 24-year-old winger had been purchased from Barcelona in 2020 for €14m, making 76 competitive appearances for the Giallorossi, in which he scored eight goals and provided seven assists.
