There is more bad news on the horizon for Roma, because Jose Mourinho confirms the sensations around Zeki Celik’s knee injury are ‘not positive.’

The full-back lasted only four minutes at the Stadio Olimpico in this evening’s 2-1 Europa League defeat to Real Betis.

He limped off and initial reports claim there is a sprain to the right knee with potential ligament damage, so if that was confirmed by tests, it would rule him out for some time.

“I don’t wish to seem too pessimistic, but the sensation is not positive,” said Mourinho in his press conference.

It would be another devastating injury for the Giallorossi, who are already missing Rick Karsdorp, Georginio Wijnaldum and Ebrima Darboe.

This is particularly damaging because Celik and Karsdorp are both right-backs.

It means either Leonardo Spinazzola or more likely the versatile Nicola Zalewski will have to be switched over to the right in order to fill in for Celik.

Roma spent €7m to purchase Turkey international Celik from LOSC over the summer and so far this season he has made nine appearances between Serie A and the Europa League.

  1. thats bad, really serious at such a young age, unfortunately when its a knee – you cant come back to the top level – he most likely continue playing in turkey only and not the top 5 leagues
