Roma fans took to social media this evening to express their shock and joy at news Paulo Dybala had rejected the €75m Al-Qadsiah salary package, as did teammates and Dybala’s wife.

La Joya had seemingly said his goodbyes at the Trigoria training ground this afternoon, ready to complete the transfer to the Saudi Pro League and sign a three-year contract worth €25m per season.

Instead, this evening he suddenly announced via an Instagram post that he had changed his mind.

“Thank you, Roma. I’ll see you on Sunday.”

Roma react to Dybala news

Leandro Paredes decided to make it extra clear with his own Instagram Story: “For those who haven’t worked it out yet, La Joya is staying with us.”

Dybala got married to partner Oriana over the summer and she replied to her husband’s post with six heart emojis in a row.

Matias Soulé was positively overcome with emotion, posting a photograph of them together along with the emojis of hearts and tears.

The comments on the post from fans ranged from the emotional to the amusing, including one who promised “eternal carbonara” for the Argentinean. That has to be worth at least €25m per season.

Many neutral supporters also credited the player with choosing to turn down the millions in the Saudi Pro League to continue fighting for his place at Roma, especially as he will not be 31 until November.

The biggest compliment of all was fans telling him that now he has earned the right to wear the Number 10 jersey, an iconic shirt worn by legends Francesco Totti and Giuseppe Giannini.

Some even put Dybala into a deepfake video as the Leonardo Di Caprio character in The Wolf of Wall Street declaring: “I’m not leaving.”

  1. Lol. As if this makes them Scudetto contenders. They are lucky to finish fifth. This guy will play 20 games as usual. So much pomp and circumstance for nothing.

  2. Right now, Roma owners are in such a big shock & worries coz they have to prepare fund if Dybala meets their agreement for renewal, bonuses & raise. LOL. Again, one of the most (and always) mismanaged clubs in Italy.

  3. What a great news for football. Though Roma‘s management might be worried on how they’d pay his hefty salary now 🙂

  4. Dybala was hoping Inter sign him on a free from RuBentus, however that eventually did not happen…

Glad he is staying in Serie A.
