Nicolo Zaniolo did not hold back when reflecting on his Roma exit and his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport has infuriated the Giallorossi faithful.

The Italian forward opened up about his move from Rome to Galatasaray, complaining about the reaction of the fans and how the club treated him in his final few months.

Zaniolo claimed that he was misled by Roma, who told him he was “an important figure” but instead treated him like a “capital gain”, selling him to the Turkish club for around €15m in February.

The 23-year-old’s interview did little to win back the Roma fans, who expressed their frustrations and disappointment with the player on social media.

One fan highlighted the belief and support Roma showed Zaniolo before he pushed for a move away in January, saying: “If you only knew how disappointed we were with your playing style….you had so much potential, all thwarted with that attitude of a star player. You should have been more humble and generous, especially with the club that looked after and waited for you.”

Another supporter also referenced the player’s perceived lack of humility, accusing his entourage of having a similar problem: “Fly low Zaniolo: learn to be more humble! You and your whole entourage….”

One asked Zaniolo to do some self-reflection but doubted that it would help him see the situation from a new angle: “Ask yourself a question and give yourself an answer, although I doubt you will get it, given the arrogance, but above all the absence of intellect.”

Another noted how the 23-year-old Italian forward still hasn’t taken any responsibility for his downfall with Roma: “Yet another Zaniolo embarrassment, who only blames others and does not even take the slightest responsibility.”
