Roma fans dream as Lukaku offers himself for late transfer

Roma fans dream of seeing Romelu Lukaku move to the Stadio Olimpico especially after Atalanta blocked Duvan Zapata’s exit.

The Belgian forward is not in Chelsea’s plans for 2023-24. Despite having reached an agreement with Juventus, his potential transfer to Turin is stalling as the Bianconeri need to sell Dusan Vlahovic first.

Lukaku has now emerged as a potential target for Roma, but according to several sources, including Sky Sport, the Giallorossi can only secure his signature on loan.

As per Il Corriere della Sera, Lukaku has offered himself to the Giallorossi, but this doesn’t mean the deal will happen given that Roma don’t have the financial resources to match Chelsea’s €40m asking price.

Nevertheless, Roma fans are dreaming of welcoming Big Rom in the last days of the summer transfer window. Several sources from the capital report how the majority of Roma fans have put the Belgian on top of their wish list.

Corriere dello Sport editor Ivan Zazzaroni wrote in his column on Wednesday that many supporters are ‘ready to pick up Lukaku at the airport’ if the club sign him while local radio stations are speculating about the striker’s potential arrival in the capital.

Sky Sport Italia’s correspondent Paolo Assogna joked on Wednesday afternoon that he has to ‘disguise’ his voice when picking up the phone given the vast number of fans calling him to have updates on Lukaku’s transfer.

Assogna maintains that Roma could only sign Lukaku on loan in the final days of the transfer window with Chelsea paying part of the striker’s salary.

In the meantime, Atalanta have blocked Zapata’s potential transfer to the Stadio Olimpico making Roma fans’ speculation even more persistent.
