A Roma fan who stole a club jersey justified the thievery by citing the ‘Mourinho effect’, according to reports in Italy.

The Giallorossi are in their first European final in 31 years as they face Feyenoord in the Europa Conference league final in Tirana.

Victory over Leicester City in the semi-final has sent the city into a fervour.

And AGI via Corriere dello Sport report a fan, who stole a jersey from the club shop in the centre of Rome, justified his actions as he explained to police: “Mourinho’s Roma makes me go crazy – we are in the Conference League final. I couldn’t resist.”

The report states that store workers notified police of the thievery, who stopped the 29-year-old and the jersey was restored.

Mourinho joined Roma as coach in the summer and received a hero’s welcome as he entered the Eternal City.

The capital side are sixth in the table with one match remaining.
