Nemanja Matic has officially reached the number of appearances needed to extend his contract with Roma until 2024, but Georginio Wijnaldum could return to PSG at the end of the season.

Multiple reports in Italy claim former Manchester United midfielder Matic will remain at Roma for at least one season, having played 40% of this season’s matches for at least 45 minutes.

Matic had signed a one-year contract with an option for a further season last summer, completing a free transfer from Old Trafford.

According to Sportmediaset, Italy international Bryan Cristante will also extend his contract with the Giallorossi. The agreement between the two parties has already been reached and the ex-Atalanta man will sign a new deal until 2027. His current contract runs out in June 2024.

On the other hand, there are doubts over Wijnaldum’s stay at the Stadio Olimpico in 2023-24. The Dutch midfielder suffered a fibula injury at the beginning of the season, weeks after a loan move from PSG, and has only made 11 appearances this term.

Roma can make his move permanent for €8m plus add-ons and ‘Gini’ earns €7m per season. Therefore, Tiago Pinto doesn’t seem willing to sign him permanently and could send the 32-year-old back to Paris unless the Ligue 1 giants agree to extend his loan for one more season.
