Roma officials met with Chelsea tonight at Stamford Bridge and reportedly edged closer to an agreement, so Romelu Lukaku could fly in for a medical over the next 48 hours.

While Dan Friedkin had begun the talks on the phone with Todd Boehly’s representatives, his son Ryan flew to London this afternoon with director of sport Tiago Pinto.

They then travelled to Stamford Bridge, where they watched Chelsea beat Luton Town 3-0 in the Premier League, and are set to have dinner tonight.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Lukaku already gave the all-clear in a conference call with Jose Mourinho and is eager to make the transfer go through.

It is expected to be a loan at a fee of €10m with Chelsea paying a portion of Lukaku’s salary.

Calciomercato.com insist authorities in Rome have already been put on alert to prepare for Lukaku’s arrival on Saturday or Sunday.

The Belgian is currently back home in Brussels and waiting for the all-clear.

He had been desperate for a return to Serie A after the loan spell at Inter, but infuriated the Nerazzurri when he entered talks with their arch-rivals Juventus.

The Bianconeri were unable to work out a fee with Chelsea, so in the last week of the transfer window, the English club opened up to the prospect of another loan.
