Roma are turning towards Palmeiras left-back Matias Viña to fill in for injured Leonardo Spinazzola, claim Sportitalia.

The Giallorossi need someone who can cover for the Italy international, who tore his Achilles tendon during UEFA EURO 2020.

That injury will rule Spinazzola out for six to nine months.

According to Sportitalia, the latest candidate for the role of left-back is Matias Viña of Palmeiras.

It’s hardly the first time he has been linked with a Serie A transfer, as he was already on Milan’s radar last season.

The 23-year-old has 16 senior caps for Uruguay under his belt and joined Palmeiras in January 2020 from Nacional de Montevideo.

The asking price is believed to be in the region of €7m.

Another important aspect of the potential deal for Viña is that he already has an Italian passport, so will not take up a non-EU slot in the Roma squad.

He can also play as a centre-back or in a more advanced role down the left side of midfield.
