Roma are more confident of agreeing a two-year contract extension with Nicolò Zaniolo after a day of negotiations, which would rule out Milan and Juventus swoops.

The 23-year-old forward is currently under contract until June 2024 and there had been reports he wanted over €5m per season to pen a new deal.

This prompted speculation the versatile Italy international was on the market, but Milan and Juventus were not prepared to reach the €50-60m asking price.

Negotiations began in earnest today with his representative and Sport Mediaset maintain there has been significant progress.

It is claimed that director Tiago Pinto and agent Claudio Vigorelli reached a basic agreement for a two-year extension to the current contract worth €4.5m per season.

That is an improvement on his current salary, but not quite at the level of the highest earners at Roma.

It would also retain Zaniolo at the Stadio Olimpico until June 2026.
