Roma dreaming of Man Utd’s Ronaldo if time at Old Trafford is over – report

Cristiano Ronaldo could be on the look out for a new club this summer as he doesn’t quite fit into new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s tactical style.

And, according to suggestions made in the Italian media, that has left Roma dreaming a reunion with manager Jose Mourinho in the Italian capital.

La Repubblica claim that the Portugal captain will be looking for a new club but is unlikely to find any suitors among the top tier of Europe’s sides with their focus on younger talents.

That means he will be on the lookout for a club who could use his personality as a springboard to more success, having won their first European trophy since 1961.

Of course, Ronaldo’s wages would be an issue, though the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes – who has an excellent relationship with Roma – could be attracted by the tax benefits in Rome, the report adds.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo and Mourinho did not separate on the best of terms following the manager’s acrimonious exit after a three-year spell at Real Madrid in 2013.

The report suggests Roma’s FFP issues could eventually prove a stumbling block and that opens the door to a potentially stunning return to former club Sporting CP who, unlike the Giallorossi and United, are in the Champions League.

Ronaldo spent three seasons in Serie A, from 2018 to 2021, with Juventus, where he won Serie A on two occasions and the Coppa Italia once.
