Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp surprised everyone by announcing his exit from Liverpool in the summer and Roma have reportedly started to dream about his possible arrival in the Italian capital.

The 56-year-old German coach unexpectedly told the club’s media department on Friday that he’d be resigning at the end of the season, having ‘run out of energy’ after over eight years in the role. His announcement sent shockwaves across the Reds fanbase, leaving many in disbelief.

Roma are in a state of flux themselves; Jose Mourinho was dismissed earlier this month after over two years in the dugout and has been replaced by Daniele De Rossi, who could leave the role in the summer unless he really impresses in the second half of this season.

As reported by Il Messaggero via TMW, Roma owners the Fredkin family have started to think about the possible appointment of Klopp in the summer, aware that he won’t come cheap and that clubs across Europe will want to snap up the German tactician.

Due to the chaotic nature of coaching in the Italian capital, it’ll likely take a lot of convincing to bring Klopp to the Giallorossi, especially considering that he’s leaving Liverpool due to a lack of energy.

  1. When you take into account how much money he spent at Liverpool, the chances of him coming to Serie A is almost zero. At liverpool, he pretty much got every single player he asked for, paying tens of millions for goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders…the lot. Nunez and Gakpo alone will ultimately cost liverpool well in excess of 150m. Nearly a billion spent to lose 3 european finals, and forever pep’s bridesmaid. Won a champ league in an off season for the bigger clubs, and only did so because it was spurs in the final.

  2. that would be an amazing outcome. Unlikely though – there is not enough money. The challenge may be greater in many ways because it wouldn’t be possible to ‘buy’ the team – Klopp would have to work with a modest budget and adapt his tactics to fit his resources. He will almost definitely leave the PL, take a year out and then maybe German national team or La Liga?
