Roma defender Smalling victim of attempted burglary – report

Chris Smalling

Roma defender and former England international Chris Smalling has been the victim of a break-in and attempted burglary at his home in Rome on Tuesday night.

According to reports from Il Corriere dello Sport, burglars smashed a window to get into the former Manchester United defender’s home and attempted to leave with a safe before fleeing the scene.

The attempts to break into the safe were ultimately unsuccessful.

Police were called to the scene and the forensic squad are currently conducting their analysis. Investigations are also underway to identify what and how much was stolen on Tuesday night.

As per the initial analysis, Il Corriere reports, the break-in would have been carried out by a gang of professionals.

Unfortunately for Smalling, he was already the victim of an armed burglary at his home in 2021, and had been subjected to another attempted theft more recently as well.

Smalling will report to the police on Monday to declare any items that were stolen on the night of the break-in.
