Roma have confirmed that Bryan Cristante and Gonzalo Villar tested positive for COVID-19 and therefore miss tomorrow’s trip to Genoa.

It kicks off on Sunday at 19.45 GMT and Jose Mourinho had to wait until the swab results were completed before naming his squad travelling to Marassi.

There were reports this morning that two midfielders had tested positive, but more investigation was required before that could be confirmed.

The club statement now makes clear Cristante and Villar have both tested positive for COVID-19.

Both players have been vaccinated and are now isolating at home.

They are believed to be asymptomatic.

Although vaccination does not entirely guarantee that someone will not contract COVID-19, it does make it less likely, as well as significantly lowering the risk of symptoms or serious complications.

It is a heavy blow for the Giallorossi, who are already missing Matias Vina, Chris Smalling, Riccardo Calafiori and Leonardo Spinazzola due to injury.

With the other absences, it is likely that Ebrima Darboe will step into the midfield with Jordan Veretout.
