Nemanja Matic is a free agent from Manchester United and Jose Mourinho’s first choice to reinforce the midfield, but Roma have some doubts.

The Serbia international will turn 34 in August and has announced he is leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season.

He was purchased from Chelsea in the summer of 2017 for €44.7m, but didn’t get that much playing time this season with only 32 competitive appearances, nonetheless providing four assists.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Matic is the first choice on Mourinho’s list of players to strengthen his Giallorossi midfield next term.

However, the same source suggests Roma are not entirely convinced that Matic is the right pick.

His age and general fitness levels are a concern, especially considering he is asking for at least €5m per season in wages.

Matic played more games under Mourinho than any other coach, making 159 appearances at first Chelsea and then Manchester United.
