Jose Mourinho is continuing his battle with UEFA after a four-match ban for criticising the referee in the Europa League Final, he is formally ‘renouncing’ the UEFA Football Board.
The decision was confirmed in a letter sent to UEFA director and former Milan chief Zvonimir Boban.
It is a sign of how bad the rapport is between Mourinho and UEFA President Aleksandar Ceferin that the letter was not even addressed directly to him.
“Dear Mr. Boban, in thanking you for the invitation you extended to me to be a member of the UEFA Football Board, I regret to inform you that, effective immediately, I will be renouncing to my participation in this group.
“The conditions which I so strongly believed in when I joined are no longer standing and I felt the obligation to take this decision.
“I kindly ask that you also communicate my decision to the President Mr. Aleksander Čeferin.
“Kind regards, Jose Mourinho”
The UEFA Football Board was an idea set up by Boban and former referee Roberto Rosetti, made up of illustrious current and former players and coaches who could suggest improvements to the sport and its organisation.
Mourinho has been bitterly critical of the refereeing in Italy and Europe all season, culminating in his fury at English official Anthony Taylor after the defeat on penalties to Sevilla in the Europa League Final.
The coach was caught on camera accosting Taylor in the car park of the stadium and calling him a ‘f***ing disgrace.’
This later helped inspire a group of Roma supporters who shouted abuse at Taylor and his family at the airport in Budapest, one even hurling a chair.
UEFA is a corrupt body if you could only ban morinho and live Anthony Taylor to continue with his fraudulent officiating of a football match.
