Roma are increasingly close to a deal for Genoa striker Eldor Shomurodov, as Genoa could be open to a loan with obligation to buy, but a player swap is also possible.

Although Sardar Azmoun of Zenit St Petersburg was mentioned as a target, Shomurodov has rapidly climbed to the front of the queue for Jose Mourinho.

His asking price is believed to be circa €20m and the opening bid of €15m is not too far off.

There was a ‘positive’ meeting today between the clubs, with Genoa seemingly open to accepting a staggered payment, in other words a loan with obligation to buy at the end of the season.

That is a huge boost for the Giallorossi, who have spent big already on the transfer market this summer and are running short on funds.

According to Calciomercato.com transfer writer Daniele Longo, Roma could even include Carles Perez or Amadou Diawara as part of the deal.

Uzbekistan international Shomurodov only joined Genoa in October 2020 from Rostov for €7.5m.

He just turned 26 last month and impressed in his debut Serie A season with eight goals in 31 appearances, many of them off the bench.

Intriguingly, Shomurodov would seem to be a fan, as he already posted a picture on Instagram of himself standing next to Mourinho in February 2019.
