Boldt worked for Bayer Leverkusen in various roles from 2007 to 2019, moving from talent scout to director of sport.

He accepted the job at Hamburger SV in May 2019 and is under contract until June 2021.

Roma have been without a genuine director of sport since Gianluca Petrachi was fired in June, so CEO Guido Fienga had to work as their transfer chief.
