Roma are reportedly close to securing right-back Lorenz Assignon on loan with option to buy from Stade Rennes for €10m, while Rick Karsdorp is cut from their Serie A squad list.

The Giallorossi have been very active on the transfer market this summer and continue to work just 24 hours from the Serie A season opener against Cagliari.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, they are getting closer to a deal with Stade Rennais for defender Assignon.

It will be a €1m loan with option to buy for a further €9m at the end of the season, which can become an obligation if certain conditions are met.

The French talent turned 24 in January and was also linked with Atalanta and Aston Villa, after spending the last six months on loan at Burnley.

Assignon in, Karsdorp out

Meanwhile, Roma have cut Karsdorp from their squad list ahead of tomorrow’s Serie A Week 1 fixture, suggesting he is not part of their plans for the new season.

It is hardly the first time he has been left out, as he also had a row with previous coach Jose Mourinho and the rapport with the fans never fully recovered.
