Roma released a statement on the muscular injury that forced Lorenzo Pellegrini to abandon the Italy squad and it shows this is not a relapse.

The midfielder was working only in the gym yesterday due to muscular issues and today was sent home along with Juventus forward Federico Chiesa, missing the EURO 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Ukraine.

There had been suggestions that Pellegrini suffered a relapse of the adductor problem in his left thigh, which had seen him originally start on the bench against Milan, coming on during the first half to replace injured Houssem Aouar.

However, a statement from Roma noted that Pellegrini has left the Italy squad due to a problem with the flexor in his right thigh.

It is therefore not a relapse of the same injury, but a whole new problem that the midfielder is forced to deal with.

Pellegrini has had numerous muscular concerns in recent months and it is starting to become a real concern.

It also raises questions on Jose Mourinho’s training methods, as Roma have repeatedly dealt with muscular injuries since he arrived.
