Roma can use youth players to cut Frattesi costs

Reports continue to grow that Roma are working on a deal for Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi, using youth team players Edoardo Bove and Cristian Volpato as part of the exchange.

The Italy international grew up in the Giallorossi youth academy and has never disguised his desire to return to the Stadio Olimpico, even expressing how ‘awful’ his summer was when the transfer failed to materialise.

Roma also have another advantage over other clubs, as due to that €5m move, they will receive 30 per cent of any future sell-on fee, so technically have a 30 per cent discount.

Still the €35-40m asking price was considered too much and is now dropping to €30m, which for Roma with the discount would be €21m.

They could also further chop down the cost of the operation by including youth team players Bove and Volpato.

However, La Gazzetta dello Sport suggest Roma would want a buy-back option on both these players and Sassuolo are haggling over the figures.

Milan, Napoli and Juventus are among the other sides interested in Frattesi, but he has made his intentions abundantly clear.
