Reports claim Roma have made contact with Artem Dovbyk’s agents as Villarreal rejected an offer for Alexander Sorloth.

Roma are looking for a new centre forward following Romelu Lukaku’s return to Chelsea but one of their primary targets, Youssef En-Nesyri, has joined their former coach José Mourinho at Fenerbahce.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Giallorossi have considered sending an offer for Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta, but their main targets play in La Liga.

Roma have already seen a €30m Sorloth bid rejected by Villarreal with the La Liga side unwilling to sell the Norway international for less than his €38m clause.

The other candidate to replace Lukaku is Girona and Ukraine star Dovbyk. According to Gazzetta and Fabrizio Romano, the Giallorossi have made contact with the entourage of the 27-year-old.

Romano claims that club directors will be in touch with the striker’s agents today, but Daniele De Rossi has already called the Ukrainian star.

Dovbyk has a €40m clause and Girona have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid, but the striker’s entourage are yet to shake hands with the La Liga giants, so Roma wants to see if there’s space to squeeze in.
