Marcos Leonardo isn’t the only striker Roma are trying to sign, as they are also working on Bologna veteran Marko Arnautovic.

Jose Mourinho sent a pointed message to the club hierarchy when posting a picture on Instagram of the team standing with a large gap where the centre-forward ought to be.

They responded by striking a deal with Santos for Marcos Leonardo and expect a response today, but that is not the only move, as Tammy Abraham’s knee injury will keep him out of action for circa six months.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Roma are also in negotiations with Bologna for veteran hitman Arnautovic.

The 34-year-old had already been linked with Milan earlier in the summer, before Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara were sacked.

His asking price is believed to be in the region of €8m, so cheaper than the alternative, Alvaro Morata of Atletico Madrid.

Other cheap options could be Duvan Zapata of Atalanta and Spezia striker M’Bala Nzola, while there are also talks for AZ Alkmaar’s Greek international Vangelis Pavlidis.
