Jose Mourinho has set a new Roma record for the number of English players in their starting lineup.

Christ Smalling, Tammy Abraham and Ainsley Maitland-Niles all started for the Giallorossi in tonight’s Serie A clash against Juventus, breaking the record for the number of Englishman in a Roma starting XI.

As highlighted by Siamo la Roma, three English players will start for Roma for the first time in their history. Interestingly, all three players are from London; Smalling is from Greenwich, Abraham is from Camberwell and Maitland-Niles is from Ilford.

Abraham has been strong for the Giallorossi this season under Mourinho and scored the opening goal in tonight’s match against Juventus, putting the Roman club in an important position as they look to fight for a top four finish this season.

Roma have looked strong offensively but have had issues with their finishing this season, and their defence has also looked a little shaky.

  1. And just now one of these exotic Englishmen just sent Chiesa out of the game. Playoffs for Italy in risk. Bravo and well done.

Good for Mou. Turning Roma into a English-Portuguese dumping ground while Italian players are buried in ‘B’.

    Great stuff all around.

  2. More English players than Italian players for Roma. You just know FI are delighted at that.

Then people will wonder why Italy will fail to qualify for the World Cup second consecutive time? Look no further than this.

Some others will even accuse of being negative and to have faith, LOL!

Its gone past a point of no return.
