Roma are determined to keep defender Kostas Manolas and will begin the negotiations for a contract extension.

The 24-year-old centre-back is a major target for Antonio Conte's Chelsea, but recent developments suggest it is unlikely he will be sold this year.

Due to a clause in the player's contract, the Giallorossi would be forced to share half of Manolas' transfer fee with his former club Olympiakos if he were sold before September 1, 2016.

Calciomercato.it report that in an effort not to lose half of the player's value, Roma will shortly begin talks to extend the player's contract.

The club will also discuss raising Manolas' salary substantially, partly to reflect his increased prominence within the team, and partly to keep him from being tempted by external offers.
