Roma directors met José Mourinho yesterday and are not considering sacking the Special One despite nine defeats in 21 Serie A games.

On Sunday, the Giallorossi suffered a 4-3 home defeat against Juventus despite being 3-1 up with 20 minutes remaining.

Mourinho has collected eight points less than Paulo Fonseca last term and has already lost nine games out of 21, the highest amount of defeats in the last 43 years.

Roma’s target is to qualify for the Champions League, but the Giallorossi are nine points behind Atalanta and La Dea even has a game in hand.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Roma directors met Mourinho yesterday but are not considering sacking their coach.

The former Inter tactician explained his program for the club and the team’s development which is backed by the chiefs and the owners.

Roma’s dressing room leaders are also on Mourinho’s side and are still ‘fascinated’ by his charisma. However, according to the Rome-based paper, the coach’s post-match interviews could divide Roma players.

In his last one after the game against Juventus, Mourinho accused Roma players of having a weak mentality. Nevertheless, the Giallorossi directors are determined to go ahead with the Special One.

8 thought on “Roma back Mourinho despite worst start in 43 years”
  1. Jose, like Serie A itself, is yesterday’s man.

His best years are long gone, and fixing the bottlers that are Roma was always going to be a tough job. Their collapse against an average Juve side was as typical a Roma defeat as you’ll ever see.

  2. This is what happens when americans who haven’t seen a single game of football in their lives take charge. He was probably the only coach they’d heard of, that’s why they hired him.

  3. How dear Jose accuse football players that make hundreds of thousands per week, by stating that they have weak mentalities!!! They haven’t beat a top team in 2 years, but let’s not call it out, even though every single person says the same thing that’ Mourinho said!! Why are you guys so obsessed with Mourinho

  4. Looks like Roma fans love this guy. They’re satisfied with him and all the other big (and small teams) in Serie A are probably satisfied, too.

So may he stay in charge of Roma for a long time.

  5. Bury, that’s an insanely stupid comment. And typically arrogant for a Briton. The 3 clubs Mourinho managed before Roma were all English, so at which point along that road did Mourinho become the coach that somebody who knows nothing of football would hire? Or do those English clubs no nothing of football as well?
