Roma were forced to take off Lorenzo Pellegrini at the half time break of their Coppa Italia clash with Genoa.

The 26-year-old Italian midfielder has been a key player for Jose Mourinho this season and featured in almost all of their games in the first half of the season, only missing three due to a muscle injury in the run-up to the World Cup break. Injuries have been a source of frustration for the Giallorossi this campaign but things have started to look brighter in Trigoria.

As highlighted by Gianluca Di Marzio, Pellegrini felt his flexor pull during the first half of Roma’s Coppa Italia clash with Genoa, when trying to stop the advance of Genoa’s Stefano Sabelli.

He stopped taking corners as the half progressed and was taken off by Mourinho during the half time break, being replaced by Paulo Dybala.

The substitution was purely precautionary but there are fears that he could be forced to the sidelines for the next match against Fiorentina.
