Roma and Lazio paid tribute to their former defender Sinisa Mihajlovic, putting up two shirts worn by the Serbian in the Stadio Olimpico’s Hall of Fame.

The former Bologna coach sadly passed away aged 53 in December of last year following a long battle with leukaemia. His death was sorely felt by the world of Italian football and his funeral in Rome drew a number of current and former figures of the game.

A modern Serie A legend, Mihajlovic spent two years of his playing career with Roma from 1992 to 1994 before heading to Sampdoria. After four years in Liguria, he returned to the Italian capital, spending six years with Lazio.

Today, what would’ve been his 54th birthday, Roma and Lazio decided to celebrate their former player by displaying two of his shirts in the Hall of Fame at the Stadio Olimpico.

The event was organised by the Sport and Health organisation, and his family was also present to witness the tribute.

Mihajlovic’s wife Arianna spoke at the event, showing her emotion and pride at the gesture to her late husband.

“This is a wonderful day, characterised by so much emotion from me and my children. The affection you are showing honours us. They have been difficult days, but we follow Sinisa’s message, carrying it in our hearts.”
