Roma and Lazio have qualified for the Europa League, meaning Atalanta and Fiorentina must fight it out for one Conference League play-off place.

The Giallorossi earned a comfortable 3-0 victory away to Torino this evening, a game that was brought forward to help them prepare for the Conference League Final against Feyenoord in Tirana on Wednesday.

If Roma win the Conference League, they will gain automatic qualification for the Europa League, but it turns out they will be in that tournament regardless after securing a top six spot in Serie A.

If Lazio lose their final game against Hellas Verona, then Roma will finish fifth thanks to a superior head-to-head record with their city rivals.

That means seventh is valid for a Conference League play-off spot, which goes to either Fiorentina or Atalanta.

Both those sides go into Saturday’s games on 59 points.

If they finish level on points, then Fiorentina will take the spot thanks to their superior head-to-head record, having won 1-0 and 2-1.

It was possible that Roma could win the Conference League and send eight Italian clubs into Europe, but only if they also finished outside the top eight in Serie A and that is no longer possible.

  1. It’s not fair. If Roma are already in EL and wins UECL why seveth in table doesn’t go to EL and 8th to UECL? Of course, Roma still have to win against Feyenoord.
