Roma and Juventus consider Arthur-Villar swap deal?

According to reports in Italy, Roma could look to make a move for Juventus midfielder Arthur next month and may include Gonzalo Villar in a deal.

The Giallorossi are not looking to make large investments in the January transfer window but do want to provide coach Jose Mourinho with some lower-cost reinforcements, and one of these could be the 25-year-old Arthur.

The Brazilian midfielder has only made four Serie A appearances this season under coach Massimiliano Allegri and he risks missing out on next year’s World Cup should things stay the same, so a change next month seems likely.

His agent Federico Pastorello, who helped Roma sign Tammy Abraham from Chelsea in the summer, also suggested that a move could take place in the January window.

“I recently had the pleasure of having Federico Bernardeschi and Arthur in my team. Federico is happy and concentrated, while Arthur was chosen by another coach and with Allegri he finds little space, he wants to play in the World Cup and so could change,” he highlighted recently.

Arthur has only made two starts across all competitions this season for Juventus and so Pastorello has been looking for possible suitors, with both Roma and Lazio interesting options.

Calciomercato.com report that Roma are interested in signing him on loan in the January transfer window and could include Villar as well in order to sweeten the deal.

Arthur’s transfer from Barcelona was supposedly worth €72m and whilst it’s clear that this figure was exaggerated, Juventus still cannot afford to lose him for a low fee only 18 months after his arrival.

Lazio are also reportedly linked to the 25-year-old Brazilian midfielder, although their top priorities for next month are a left-back and a backup striker.
