Roma and Italy are sweating over Pellegrini fitness

Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini played without having fully recovered from a knee problem in the 3-2 defeat to Venezia and reportedly risks having to leave the Italy camp.

The Giallorossi are, according to Il Corriere dello Sport, hoping to avoid any further setbacks for the attacking midfielder, who could return to the Italian capital immediately.

Jose Mourinho’s men lost 3-2 against newly promoted Venezia on Sunday and Pellegrini acted like a true leader in the difficult moment at the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo.

The captain gritted his teeth and was the last to give up against the ArancioNeroVerde, despite struggling with a sore left knee.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports La Lupa took a calculated risk by playing him in Venice and in a moment of crisis, the 25-year-old was ready to help the team recover from their recent struggles.

Pellegrini checks in at Coverciano this morning, but the pain puts him in doubt for the national team this month.

The report claims he cannot rule out returning to Rome and the evaluations of the Giallorossi will also weigh on the final decision.

Roma would reportedly prefer to not take any risks and could ask the Azzurri to send him back to the Italian capital.
