Monchi confirms Stephan El Shaarawy will stay at Roma and says Patrik Schick “was always our obsession”.

“Will El Shaarawy stay?” Monchi considered.
“Yes, there have been no offers.
“Riyad Mahrez? You can’t buy something from someone who doesn’t want to sell, so you stop negotiating.”

Despite their public pursuit of the Leicester winger, Monchi insists Schick wasn’t a backup option.
“I’ll tell you a secret, my first trip outside of Rome to do a deal for Roma was for Schick, we’re talking two months ago.
“Patrik was always our obsession, but at that time Juventus were his first choice.
“Where will he fit into the team? I won’t say anything about the tactical side of things, I give the Coach [Eusebio Di Francesco] the best players I can and then he thinks about that kind of thing.”
