Fiorentina director general Andrea Rogg discusses the Europa League draw, and inisists Joaquin will not be allowed to leave.

The Viola were paired with Coach Paulo Sousa’s former side Basel, as well as Lech Poznan and Belenenses, and the director believes the draw has been relatively kind.

“Looking at the draw, I’d say it certainly could have been worse,” Rogg explained to Sky.

“Our goal is to qualify for the next round. We want to go as far as possible in Europe, this team deserves a good European run. The ambition is to win every game.

“Basel? I haven’t spoke to Sousa yet, but he’ll be happy to return to a place where he did such good work. He knows the pitfalls we could face in that match very well, and he’ll be pleased to return to Basel.

“Sousa is a direct and meticulous person, he loves his job. He’s won over the players and the fans in a short space of time. We’re happy, and the team are keen to follow his instructions.”

Rogg also insisted Spanish winger Joaquin would not be allowed to leave, despite the player begging to be sold to Real Betis.

“We’re not discussing it, the club’s point of view is to enforce the contracts players have. There have been no changes, the club’s position is clear.

“Joaquin is very important to us, both in a technical sense and for the atmosphere in the squad.”
