Tommaso Rocchi insists “the whole team hopes Edy Reja will stay” at Lazio, but Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo is another option.
The club and tactician have made it clear they need negotiations before deciding what they will do next season.
“In all honesty, I don’t know what Reja will do,” confessed Rocchi.
“The Coach is being rather mysterious about this. Yesterday all of us said goodbye to our teammates, the club and Coach for the summer, but I think the future is all still to be decided.
“I expect there will be new meetings and we’ll have to wait and see. I can say the whole team wants Reja to stay.
“I didn’t see him as perplexed by the situation, it’s just that after a season in which there were so many issues, it’s natural for there to be doubts on whether to continue.”
Reja had tended his resignation in February following a row with director Igli Tare over the failure to reinforce the squad mid-season, but changed his mind a couple of days later.
Gianfranco Zola has been heavily linked with the Lazio job, but it is also now reported that Di Matteo is an option.
It would be a return to Lazio for Di Matteo, who must wait and see whether Chelsea hire him for next season after he reached the Champions League Final as Interim Coach.
He was a midfielder at the Biancocelesti from 1993 to 1996.
